Our cleanup efforts commenced at 0800 on 09 November at the Stonebridge crossing of the Opequon. Gary Sylvester provided coffee and donuts to help get our engines fired up. 21 volunteers joined the cleanup effort collecting 59 bags of trash which was removed by The Berkeley County Solid Waste authority early the next week (thanks go out to Clint Hogbin).
One water logged auto bucket seat was pulled from the creek, lots of broken countertop was found near the parking lot and piled up for removal. A few sharps (needles!) were found and recovered and one very large piece of heavy black plastic. For the most part the litter was fast food bags, cups and straws along with beer and soda bottles and cans. The Stonebridge Community Association treated those volunteers that stuck around to pizza for lunch.
An unnamed citizen dropped of a gift card to Dunkin Donuts as a way of thanking the group for our efforts.
